Terms of service
Last updated: May 9, 2026
These terms govern your use of aiTTS, the macOS application published at aitts.dev, and the aitts.dev website. By purchasing or using aiTTS, you agree to them. If you don't, don't use the software and we'll refund your purchase per the section below.
License
When you purchase a license, we grant you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable license to install and use aiTTS:
- For personal or business use.
- On up to 3 devices that you own or control at any given time. You can revoke a device from the portal to free a slot.
- For the version available at purchase time.
- Including all updates that ship to the same major version track. Major-version upgrades may be a separate purchase; we'll say so before charging you again.
The license is tied to the email you used at checkout. You can't resell, sublicense, or share it. You can transfer your own license to a new email by emailing support@aitts.dev.
Refunds
Full refund available within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. Email support@aitts.dev from the address you bought with. Refunds are processed via Stripe and typically land in 5-10 business days.
After 14 days we still offer pro-rated refunds at our discretion if the software fundamentally broke and we couldn't fix it for you.
What you can do
- Use aiTTS for any lawful purpose, personal or commercial.
- Use the locally-synthesized audio output as you would your own voice (e.g. for podcasts, video narration, accessibility use). The output is yours.
- Run aiTTS alongside any other software, including AI agents, dev tools, or accessibility tooling.
- Inspect the network traffic, system calls, or on-disk state. We have nothing to hide.
What you can't do
- Distribute, resell, sublicense, or rent the software, the license keys, or your activation tokens.
- Reverse-engineer the licensing or update-signing system to circumvent the device cap or accept unsigned updates. (Reverse-engineering for interoperability or security research is fine.)
- Use aiTTS to violate the law, infringe rights you don't hold, or harass or harm anyone.
- Use aiTTS to impersonate a real person via voice cloning. The bundled voices are fictional and don't mimic real individuals; if you bring your own voice via a future feature, the obvious rules apply.
- Resell the synthesized audio output as a "voice synthesis service" of your own. Use the output, don't resell the generation.
Cloud features and your API keys
Optional cloud features (Gemini TTS, image-description fallback) require your own API key from the relevant provider. You're responsible for that key, the costs you incur with that provider, and complying with their terms. We don't see your key or the data routed through it.
Updates
aiTTS auto-updates daily via Sparkle against ed25519-signed release packages. We may ship security fixes, bug fixes, and feature additions at our discretion. We won't take away core functionality you paid for; if we ever sunset a paid feature, you'll be notified and offered a refund or a path forward.
Service availability
The website, portal, and license-activation API are best effort. We aim for high availability, but we don't promise an SLA. Because licenses verify offline (signed ed25519), the app keeps working on your Mac even if our servers are down.
If we permanently shut the service down, we'll announce it at least 60 days in advance and publish what we can to keep installed copies working. We don't promise specifics here because we haven't had to do it; what we can promise is the offline-verifying license that's already in your hands.
Open-source components
aiTTS bundles open-source software including Sparkle (MIT), the Kokoro TTS model (Apache 2.0), whisper.cpp (MIT), and other libraries. The aiTTS application code itself is proprietary; the Claude Code integration plugin (wickdninja/tts) is MIT-licensed. License texts for bundled dependencies are available on request from support@aitts.dev.
Warranty disclaimer
aiTTS is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't warrant that the software will be error-free or that any specific feature will keep working forever.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability under these terms is capped at the amount you paid for the license in the 12 months preceding the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including lost profits, data, or use, even if advised of the possibility.
Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits; in those places we're liable to the minimum extent required by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify us against any claim arising from your misuse of the software (e.g. using it to impersonate someone, infringe rights, or break the law).
Termination
You can stop using aiTTS at any time. We can terminate your license if you materially breach these terms (e.g. resell your license, circumvent the device cap, use the app for illegal activity), in which case we'll refund a pro-rated amount based on time remaining in the current license year, except where the breach involves illegal use.
Termination doesn't affect provisions that by their nature should survive: warranty disclaimer, liability cap, indemnification, governing law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes (anything that affects your rights or grants) are announced on this page with the updated date at the top and a summary at the start of this section. Continued use after a material change constitutes acceptance. If you don't accept, email us for a refund within 30 days of the change.
Governing law
If you're a consumer in a jurisdiction with mandatory local-law protections, those apply to you regardless of what this section says. Otherwise, disputes are handled under the law of the seller's registered jurisdiction (United States); see your purchase receipt or contact support@aitts.dev for the precise venue if you need it.
